Before you use any information on this site to make decisions, file complaints, or contact anyone, please read this.

We are not Central Hudson.

Fix Central Hudson is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation or its parent company Fortis Inc. in any way.

We are also not affiliated with the New York Public Service Commission (PSC), the New York State Department of Public Service, the Hudson Valley Power Authority (HVPA), or any government agency or advocacy organization.

We are a group of Central Hudson customers who built a website. The name "Fix Central Hudson" describes what we want to see happen — it does not imply any relationship with the company. Links to outside organizations (like HVPA or the PSC) are provided as resources, not as endorsements in either direction.

We are not lawyers.

Nobody involved in building or running this site is providing legal advice. The complaint templates, action guides, phone scripts, and all other content are for informational and educational purposes only.

If you have a legal dispute with Central Hudson or need advice about your rights as a utility customer, please consult a licensed attorney in New York State.

Anomaly scores are estimates, not proof.

Our scoring engine compares your bill to weather data, your history, and bills from other users in your area. A high score means your bill looks unusual. It does not mean:

  • • Central Hudson made a billing error
  • • Your meter was misread
  • • You were overcharged or are entitled to a refund
  • • Any law or regulation was violated

There are many legitimate reasons a bill might score high — a cold snap, a new appliance, guests visiting, a rate change. Think of the score like a smoke detector: it tells you something is worth looking at, not that there's definitely a fire.

We don't verify user-submitted data.

Bill data on this site is submitted by users on the honor system. We don't have access to Central Hudson's billing system and cannot verify that any amount, kWh reading, or meter read type is accurate. Community statistics are only as good as the data people provide.

If a bill or statistic seems off, someone may have made a typo or misread their bill. We do basic sanity checks, but we can't catch everything.

Filing complaints is your right. We can't guarantee outcomes.

We help you exercise rights you already have as a New York utility customer — filing PSC complaints, contacting Central Hudson, reaching elected officials. We just make it easier.

But we cannot guarantee any outcome. We don't control what the PSC investigates, what Central Hudson does in response, or what your elected representatives prioritize.

Our information may contain errors.

Information about Central Hudson, Fortis Inc., PSC proceedings, and utility regulations comes from public sources including PSC filings, news reporting, and government documents. We try to be accurate, but we are volunteers, not journalists. We may make mistakes, and information may become outdated.

If you find an error, please let us know and we'll correct it.

Forum posts are from individuals, not from us.

Posts on the community forum represent the views of individual users, not the views of Fix Central Hudson or its volunteers. We don't fact-check forum posts. People may be mistaken, exaggerating, or simply wrong. Read forum content with the same healthy skepticism you'd apply to any conversation with a stranger.

Use at your own risk.

This entire site — the data, the scores, the tools, the forum, the guides — is provided "as is" without any warranty, express or implied. We are volunteers building something we think is useful, but we cannot be held responsible for how you use it or what happens as a result.

Specifically, we are not responsible for:

  • • Decisions you make based on anomaly scores or community data
  • • The outcome of any complaint you file
  • • Actions Central Hudson or any other party takes in response to this site
  • • Errors in user-submitted data or aggregate statistics
  • • Anything posted by other users on the forum
  • • Any damages, direct or indirect, arising from your use of this site

We built this site because we believe Central Hudson customers deserve better — better billing, better transparency, and better tools to hold their utility accountable. Everything here is offered in good faith by people dealing with the same problems you are.

But good faith doesn't replace professional advice. If the stakes are high, talk to a lawyer. If your bill is truly wrong, file that PSC complaint. And if you just want to see what's going on in your zip code, pull up a chair — that's what we're here for.
