Terms of Service
Last updated: March 19, 2026
Fix Central Hudson ("we," "us," "the site") is a community project built by concerned Central Hudson customers in the Hudson Valley, New York. We are not a company. We are not lawyers. We are your neighbors, and we built this because we got tired of bills that don't add up.
By using this site, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site — no hard feelings.
We are not Central Hudson
This needs to be completely clear: Fix Central Hudson is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation, Fortis Inc., or the New York Public Service Commission in any way. We are an independent, community-run project. We don't have access to their systems, their data, or their billing records. "Central Hudson" appears in our name only to identify the utility company we are advocating about.
This is not legal advice
Nothing on this site — the anomaly scores, the complaint templates, the forum posts, the action guides — is legal advice. We are not attorneys and we are not your attorneys. If you need legal counsel about your utility bills or any dispute with Central Hudson, please consult a licensed attorney in New York State.
The information we provide is meant to help you understand your options and exercise your existing rights as a utility customer. We do our best to be accurate, but we make no guarantees.
Your bill data
When you submit bill data to this site, you do so voluntarily. We ask for the minimum we need: your zip code, the dollar amount on your bill, kWh usage, meter read type, and the billing period. We do not ask for your name, home address, Central Hudson account number, or any payment information.
By submitting bill data, you confirm that:
- The data is from your own utility bill (or you have permission from the account holder to share it)
- You are sharing it voluntarily to contribute to community analysis
- You understand the data will be used in aggregate statistics visible to other users
- You understand your individual bill details may be visible in anonymized form (no name, no address, no account number — just numbers and zip code)
Anomaly scores are informational only
Our anomaly scoring engine compares your bill against weather data, historical patterns, and community averages to flag bills that look unusual. A high score means something might be off. It does not mean Central Hudson overcharged you. It does not constitute proof of billing errors, fraud, or any wrongdoing.
Think of it like a smoke detector — it tells you something is worth looking into, not that your house is on fire. Use the scores as a starting point for your own investigation, not as a conclusion.
Forum and community content
Our forum is a space for Central Hudson customers to share experiences, compare notes, and support each other. When you post on the forum, you are responsible for what you write.
We moderate the forum to keep it useful and respectful, but we cannot review every post in real time. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of anything posted by other users.
We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or ban any user for any reason, including but not limited to:
- Harassment, threats, or personal attacks
- Spam or commercial solicitation
- Intentionally false or misleading information
- Doxxing or sharing others' personal information
- Content that could expose the site to legal liability
Your content, your rights
You retain ownership of everything you post on this site — your bill data, your forum posts, your comments. By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, reproduce, and distribute that content on and through the site. This license exists so we can operate the site (show your forum posts to other users, include your bill data in aggregate statistics, etc.).
If you delete your account, we will remove your forum posts and bill data. Aggregate statistics that included your data will not be recalculated retroactively, but your individual records will be gone.
Age requirement
You must be at least 18 years old to use this site. Utility billing is adult stuff, and we need users who can be legally responsible for their own actions — especially if they choose to file complaints or contact officials based on information found here.
Bill photos and uploads
If you upload a photo of your utility bill, you are responsible for redacting any personal information before uploading. Cross out your name, address, account number, and anything else you don't want visible. We strongly recommend this. Once an image is uploaded, we will store it on our servers, but we cannot guarantee that all personal information will be automatically detected and removed.
Changes to the site
This is a volunteer project. We may change features, remove content, modify these terms, or shut down entirely at any time. We will try to give notice of significant changes, but we can't promise that either. If we update these terms, the updated version will be posted here with a new "Last updated" date.
No warranty
This site is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We do not warrant the accuracy of our anomaly scores, community statistics, or any other information on the site.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the volunteers who build and maintain Fix Central Hudson shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) this site. This includes, without limitation, damages arising from:
- Decisions you make based on information or anomaly scores from this site
- Complaints you file with the PSC, Central Hudson, or elected officials
- Actions taken by Central Hudson or any other party in response to information on this site
- Errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in community-submitted data
- Unauthorized access to or loss of your data
Our total liability for any claim related to this site is limited to zero dollars. We are volunteers. We didn't charge you anything and we aren't responsible for outcomes.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of New York State.
